Comedian Spotlight With Boogie Williams

Boogie Williams always knew that he would be an entertainer. The 28-year-old from Kansas City, Missouri started doing stand up comedy in November of 2014. He would post funny statuses on his Facebook page of jokes that he would make up in his mind, which resulted in many likes, shares, and comments. As a result, he gained a huge following on social media. One day, a couple of his friends, who were already doing stand up comedy, asked him to perform five minutes of material at one of their shows as a opening act. He tried it, and has been hooked on it ever since!
FABUtainment: When did you know you wanted to be a comedian?
B.W: I always knew I wanted to be some kind of a entertainer. Even as a kid I loved being the center of attention. I originally didn't know that stand up comedy would be my calling but I always knew I was funny and I wanted to do something that took place in front of a large audience and I knew I wanted to be a big famous star.

FABUtainment: Who or what inspired you to pursue a career in comedy?
B.W: To me, being able to make a complete stranger laugh is a gift and a blessing. I was inspired by the great comedian legends such as Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx, Martin Lawrence, Eddie Murphy, and Bernie Mac just to name a few. When you're on stage and a room full of people laugh at your creative thoughts it's a rush you get like a high feeling it's something I can't quite explain, but i love it and I'm addicted to it.

FABUtainment: How would you describe your comedic style?
B.W: I'm raw and raunchy, I have no filter at all I say whatever comes to my mind. I don't hold back or sugar coat anything. I'm very blunt but also very real about what I talk about and I think that's why people like me cause I always keep it real.
FABUtainment: What process do you use to develop your stand-up material?
B.W: I just take things I see from my every day life. Rather it be something personal to me or just something I've observed. The truth is always funny. As long as people can relate to what your talking about you'll always be relevant as a comedian. A friend of mine who makes music told me years ago that it's easy to create music when you write about something you know about or been through. I took that and applied it to my comedy.

FABUtainment: Do you think comedic abilities are something people already have, or can they learn?
B.W: I think to be a comedian it has to be naturally in you. Something that your born with. It's gotta be a natural talent. You can't teach a person how to be funny. It's not like a sport you can just learn.
FABUtainment: What comedians have you opened for or toured with?
B.W: I think I've performed with just about every good comedian locally here in KC. I've performed a couple times at the Kansas City Improv Comedy club but I haven't had the chance to open up for any stars yet. Although I've met a few star comedians such as D.L. Hughley, John Witherspoon, Michael Blackson, Charlie Murphy, Lil Jay Jay and Shawty.
FABUtainment: What do you think about the drama surrounding comedian Katt Williams?
B.W: He's one of my favorite comedians. I just think he's battling some demons right now, something that all comedians go through. Even though we're always being funny making someone laugh we deal with a lot of hurt and pain personally and it's weird because that's where our sense of humor comes from.
FABUtainment: Who is your favorite comedian?
B.W: I have a lot of favorites and I study all the greats. But I would have to say my all time favorite comedian would be Richard Pryor. He created the blueprint for comedians. I hope to be as great as him one day, if not greater.
FABUtainment: What comedian would you like to open for or tour with?
B.W: I would love to open up or tour with any comedian but if I had to pick one at the moment it would be Mike Epps.

FABUtainment: Have you encountered hecklers? If so, how do you deal with them?
B.W: No I've never had to deal with a heckler before. If I did ever experience one I'd probably make them regret it. I'll embarrass you before you embarrass me because I think very quick on my feet.
FABUtainment: What are your future plans for your career?
B.W: I plan to keep mastering my craft as a comedian. Do as many shows as I possibly can and hopefully make it to the top one day so I can finally get to live out my dream as a superstar comedian.
FABUtainment: What advice would you give to people who are interested in becoming a comedian?
B.W: If it's something that you feel strongly passionate about then stick with it and don't ever give up! Keep trying to become the best possible.
FABUtainment: What tours, shows, or events do you have coming up?
B.W: I have a performance scheduled May 7th in St. Louis. Then, I am hosting the "Show Up Show Out Hair Show & Barber Battle" at The Gem theatre on May 15th
